Please keep in mind that I revitalized an old version of my website and have not yet updated everything. Making homepages is sooo previous century you know.... ;-)
Not that I am a nerd :), but for those of you who are, here is a
summary of what gear I use.
- Gigabyte pentium motherboard with a genuine P-5 200 without
MMX. 20 GB hardrive, S3 2 MB graphic card and 160 MB RAM. This machine is running Openbsd 3.3. At this moment it is serving me as my gateway to internet.
Sun Sparc IPX. This is an old Sun machine with a 40 mhz cpu, 64 MB
Ram and a 1 gig harddisk. One of the most brilliant looking
machines ever, if you ask me. This one is running openbsd 2.9/sparc
now.
- I bought myself another SUN. A dual cpu Sparcstation 10 with
96 mb ram and a 2 gig harddisk. It is running Solaris 2.8.
- And yet two other Suns. I bought two Sparcstattion 2's.
Including an external hard drive, and an external cd-rom/tape
unit. This wasnt exactly the best deal I've ever made. Both
Sparcs are in various stages of not working at all.
- And again another Sun (some people collect stamps, I don't.). A Sparcstation 20/64 mb ram, including 17' Sun monitor.
- And yet again another Sun. This time I got a Sparcstation 5/170
mhz with 128 mb ram from a collegue of mine. Its running 2.8
Solaris.
- IBM thinkpad 765 L. 166 mmx with a 3 GB drive. Running
Mandrake 7.0 linux. At least it was running Mandrake until it broke
down. Still need to get it fixed.
- Sun Ultra 10 440 mhz with Creator 3d graphics and 1 GB RAM
running Solaris 9 with Gnome.
- Asus P2B-D motherboard with two 550 mhz pentium III
processors (256 kb L2 cache). 256 MB internal memory. Adaptec 2940 U2w
SCSI card. 2 x 9 GB SCSI quantum hardisk.
plextor 40 x SCSI cd player, Plextor 8/2/20 SCSI burner, 16 MB Matrox
video card and a soundblaster 32 (which still serves me
right). It is running Mandrake 9.1 at the moment. I bought this
board to try SMP. And I'am quite happy with it. I usually run
lots of programs at the same time. And with this setup I'am able
to burn cd's, play mp3's, run vmware, rip another cd, browse the
internet through three different browsers, run a
lot of terminal sessions and most importantly: run mutt, all at the same time without a glitch. My favourite windowmanager at the moment is
WindowMaker. But maybe this will be another next week. It
changes all the time. Anyway; some schreenshots are here .
- Before mentioned Pentium has a Eizo F56 monitor connected to it.
- And an Altec Lansing 2100 speaker system.
- A cheap 10/100 MB hub. (Which makes it a switch as far as
I know.)
- a six year old ADI 4V monitor. (Six years ago this was a
really good monitor. Nowadays I sometimes wonder wheather I
should get new glasses.)
- A2000 provided cable modem with about 1.5 MBit download
speed.
- Psion series 5.
- Palm V
- An old, but still nice looking Ericsson 788 phone.
- Newest adition to my toys is a Canon Digital Ixus 400. Having
spent many hours reading reviews on steves digicam site and the
digital camera resource page I concluded that a camera with too
many bells and whistles wouldnt be someting for me. Why focus
yourself if the camera does a better job at it? (Especially for
me, wearing glasses and needing a diopter which isnt even
available for most digital cameras.) Having spent even more hours
looking at the fotos on these pages I concluded that the Canon
S400 looks nice, gives sharp fotos with accurate colors. This
camera will probably be used most to take pictures of our cats.
Here's an example:
